Friday Faves {April 10, 2015}

Cheers to the weekend, the weather in New England finally starting to feel like spring today. Now time for my Friday Faves…

4.10.15-FridayFaves

1. Home office perfect for city living. Why didn’t I discover this mini desk before I put a not-as-perfect desk into a tiny random room we have that doubles as an office and storage? This desk is both a functional desk and nightstand – great for a spare bedroom. Buy it here in white or chocolate – it’s even on sale. #iwantit {popsugar.com}

2. DIY floral arrangements. Is there anything Blake Lively doesn’t do? She has a trick for creating her own floral arrangements, and all it takes is heading to your local grocery store and picking up a few of their generic, pre-made bouquets. Then you rearrange into prettier bouquets for around the house. {brit.co}

3. Make-ahead Chipotle-style burrito bowls. That says it all, doesn’t it? I’m all about a mexican “bowl” of any type, but mine usually consist of lettuce, taco meat, veggies and the usual toppings. This recipe takes it up a notch but is still pretty easy and can be prepped ahead of time (and it can even be stored in the freezer). You just make chicken, cilantro-lime rice, black beans and corn salsa, then add toppings. {today.com}

4. More habits of organized people. I do a few of these (write everything down… check – I’m a crazy list person)… but I could use some work on others (having a home for everything, having less stuff, etc.). This is a good, realistic list of things that do work if you commit to them. I’m organized when it comes to productivity, but my desk and house certainly don’t look like they belong to an organized person… {refinery29.com}

Friday Favorites on DailyKaty.com

1. Target collabs. For a while I felt like there were so many Target collaborations going on that I stopped paying attention to them, but the upcoming Lilly Pulitzer and  Of a Kind shops caught my attention. Just when I thought I had officially outgrown the Lilly trend, they come out with pieces like this perfect pink and white chevron bikini and I’m sold. {popsugar.com & refinery29.com}

2. Celeb lifestyle sites. It can’t be a coincidence that so many of my fav celebs – Gwyneth Paltrow, Blake Lively, Lauren Conrad and now Reese Witherspoon –  all launched lifestyle websites. LC’s has been one of my favorites for a while (this may or may not be an indirect result of my Laguna Beach and Hills obsession) and now I’m pretty excited to see what’s to come on Reese’s new Draper James site, which sounds like it will be more of a shopping experience than editorial. {brit.co}

3. Life tips: how to remove any stain. Real Simple created an infographic that tells you exactly how to get any stain imaginable out – coffee, wine, salad dressing, lipstick, paint and more. I learned from my mother-in-law that Lestoil is one of the best stain removers out there, but I’m no expert, so this will come in handy for sure. {realsimple.com}

4. A Jell-O shot machine. For real. It’s called Jevo and it’s apparently an “automated shot maker that can crank out 20 of your beloved Jell-O shots with the push of a button.” We could have used that in college… or now. {elitedaily.com}

Cozy products for lazy Sundays and chilly temps

This winter has been fun of way too many snowstorms and the cold temps don’t seem to be going away even though it’s now spring and almost April. I’ve been doing lots of hibernating and Netflix marathoning (officially addicted to Scandal) on the weekends, so I thought I’d share some cozy products that are perfect for lounging around in.

Cozy Finds
  • P.J. Salvage Classic Dogs Flannel PJ Set: For the past two years, my friends have hosted a New Year’s Day PJ brunch at their beach house, so I was on the market for a fun set when I found these. As a dog lover, I was immediately obsessed with these ones with pups all over them. I also love this set with dogs in sunglasses. All of their flannel PJ sets are soft and thick, keeping you warm and comfortable. And for warmer months ahead, they have lots of non-flanel options that are equally as fun. {pjsalvage.com, $65}
  • Rails Hunter Flannel: Honestly, I’ve been meaning to share this for months, but it’s been a constant in my wardrobe and I kept forgetting to actually photograph it. Jeans, booties and a flannel, dressed up with statement jewelry has become my go-to outfit, and I mean it when I say that Rails flannels are my absolute favorite. I wish I had them in every single style. They’re so soft and cozy, but also fitted, so you feel comfortable but look put together. For spring, they also have short sleeved versions and light pastel colors. {railsclothing.com, $98-$138}
  • Mangrove Scarf in PrismThrowing on a scarf is an easy way to dress up your outfit. My new favorites are from Mangrove. They’re silky and lightweight and can easily be worn year-round. This green color is called Prism, and there are so many other great solids and prints to choose from. And they’re nice and big – 80″ x 40″ – so they can be worn in lots of different ways. {shopmangrove.com, on sale for $88!}
  • ED On Air Microfleece Reversible Sherpa Throw by Ellen DeGeneres:Cozy to me is laying on the couch in a big blanket with my dog, and this one is perfect for just that. It’s nice and big – 50″ x 70″ – and has printed fleece on one side and a thicker Sherpa-style fleece on the other (my fav). It comes in cream, red and blue, so you can find one to match your home decor. {qvc.com, $26.12}
  • Cozy Orange Selene Long Sleeved Yoga Top: I love this lightweight long sleeved shirt. It’s perfect for pre- and post-studio workout, but I actually think I like it best for traveling and running errands on the weekends. The material feels like soft yoga pants and it’s a figure flattering shape, so you don’t look like you’re wearing workout clothes. I have it in heather charcoal (grey), but the ocean blue color is fun too. {cozyorange.com, $60}
  • Legwear Loft Bundled Braid Mukluk Slippers: These slippers are the best for wearing around the house, especially with leggings or any pj pants or shorts. They’re the perfect height and have a nice fleece on the inside. And they come in lots of different colors and styles. I even brought these on a work trip recently for wearing around my hotel room! {legwearloft.com, on sale for $25!}
  • Adventura Harriet Leggings: On days where jeans – even jeggings – don’t seem comfortable, leggings are my go to. These are great because they have a subtle chevron print and are a cross between tights and leggings, so they work with lots of different outfit types. {adventuraclothing.com, $29}

Friday Faves {March 20, 2015}

3.20.15-Friday Faves

1. Spring shoes. I made the mistake of walking through the shoe section at Nordstrom the other day and wanted to buy everything. Especially these gold shoes, which are a sneaker/boat shoe combo that are perfect for spring work days. Plus they’re on sale right now! {nordstrom.com}

2. Latest vacation spot. I just visited Sausalito, a cute little town right over San Fran’s Golden Gate Bridge. My best friend just lived there and we had the best girls weekend with eight of our friends. The view of the city from this street is amazing.

3. Productivity inspiration. This article, “8 Habits of Highly Productive People,” is a good read. It validates some of my own tips – tackling the hardest task first thing in the morning and taking regular breaks throughout the day – and offers several others as well. {realsimple.com}

4. My soon-to-be new favorite jeans. “Slimmy” jeans are hitting stores soon from brands like J Brand, Topshop and Gap. As a skinny jeans lover who also appreciates a good pair of boyfriend jeans, I’m going to need a pair of these asap. They’re said to be “the perfect hybrid between your cigarette denim and boyfriend jeans… this straight-leg cut is roomy without being the least bit baggy.” {refinery29.com}

Cheers to a Memorable 2014

After getting married and going on an amazing honeymoon to the Greek Islands in 2013, it was hard to believe that this year could even compare. But 2014 brought so many great things, the best being the new addition to our family, a mini bulldog named Hank. I was so excited to get a puppy, but I had no idea how much joy he would bring to our lives every single day! We also took trips to Cali, Spain and Aruba in 2014, and I closed out the year graduating with my master’s degree just a couple weeks ago.

2014 in Review - http://bit.ly/dailykaty

I’ve been a little MIA on the blog this past week (sorry!), which wasn’t the plan, but I found myself needing to take some time to myself and catching up with friends and family in town for the holidays. So to close out the year, instead of resolutions, I’m sharing some of my favorite memories from 2014. Thanks so much for reading and cheers to 2015!

1. California – Los Angeles & San Diego

For my birthday, my husband surprised me with a trip to visit my best friend in LA and more of our friends in San Diego.

2. Spain – Ibiza and Barcelona

We spent a few days in Ibiza and then met some of my family in Barcelona for a week in April.

3. Hank

The day after we got home from Spain, this little nugget came home with us. Puppy training was not easy, but it was so worth it!

4. Weddings!

Wedding fun continued this year with four of our close friends getting married in beautiful locations from New England to Washington D.C.

5. Celebrating a Special Birthday

My husband turned 30 this year and we celebrated with a big bbq with family and friends and then we went to Provincetown, Cape Cod for a nice weekend away. Ptown is very dog friendly, so Hank even got to come along!

6. 1st Anniversary in Aruba

We celebrated our first anniversary sitting on the beach and relaxing in Aruba. We’ll definitely be going back there soon! The beaches are beautiful.
