4 Fun Derby Outfits

If you read my last post, you saw that I’ve been planning out what to wear to my girlfriend’s Kentucky Derby-themed bridal shower. I found that your best bet for finding lots of variety and price points for fascinators and hats is about a month out to now – head over to that post for lots of derby outfits, but today I’m sharing four of my favorites in more detail!

I have to say, I thought I would for sure like one of the fascinators best, but how fun is this pink hat?! The fascinators are also so cute. They stay put thanks to the headbands {that you can’t really see if you have your hair down} and come in lots of colors and styles. If you’re a bride, the white one below is so perfect. Shop these looks via the links below and scroll down or visit this post for way more options for dresses, fascinators and hats!

Kentucky Derby Day Style

It may have snowed here this past weekend, but spring is here and wedding season is coming. One of my girlfriends is having the funnest bridal shower… mainly because it’s not a traditional bridal shower, it’s a Derby Day party. And aside from horse betting and mint juleps, that means lots of fun outfits!

Every year when the Kentucky Derby comes around I wish I had a reason to get dressed up in a fun dress and hat, but just haven’t had a reason to do so. I’m on the hunt for the best outfit and wanted to share all of my finds so far in today’s post, all of which you can shop using the links below. No Derby Day party this year? These dresses are also perfect for weddings, bridal and baby showers, Easter, etc. Keep scrolling because today’s post has LOTS of options in the links and widgets!

The Dresses:

I love bright colors for Derby Day or other horse race activities – anything floral, lace or striped will work. You can also go preppy with seersucker fabrics in light pinks and blues. My favorite brand for fun floral dresses is Eliza J, which you can find at Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack and ModCloth. Donna Morgan also makes pretty lace and striped dresses, along with floral options – I love this blue and white striped dress and this yellow lace midi dress. And of course J.Crew and J.Crew Factory have lots of choices when it comes to dresses in colorful prints. Here are even more options:

The Fascinators & Hats:

This is the fun part. When I first started looking, I thought I wanted a giant hat, but then I found about a million fascinator headbands in every color imaginable and think that’s the route I’m going now. It took some research, but I found options starting at just $10, but if you really want high quality, you can spend up to $100+. Whether you’re going with a fascinator or hat, go for one with a contrasting color to your dress or in a color that’s found within the pattern on your dress. If you have a colorful floral dress, I like the idea of picking a headpiece in a color that is more subtle in the print on the dress.

Etsy Fascinators for Derby Day

Etsy is a great place to find handmade fascinators. Caprilite is a shop that has them in any color combination you can imagine, all under $20 (shown above). They’re based in the UK but ship worldwide. Pippa & Pearl has fascinators, hats, gloves and more. I was also surprised to discover that at this time of year, big retail chains also have good options at affordable prices. Nordstrom’s selection has grown over the past few weeks and I even found some super inexpensive fascinators at Target and Amazon. Dillard’s, Lord & Taylor, Asos and a site called e4hats.com are also good stores to check out.

4 Spring Wedding Dresses You Need

Spring is officially here and that means wedding season is riiiight around the corner. Every year I think we’re almost done with weddings and this year we have 7! No complaints here though – I love a reason to get dressed up and celebrate with friends and family. I’ve been seeing so many cute dresses online, so today I’m sharing four different wedding dresses for guests {too cold to try them on right now, so flat lays will have to do!}.

Any of these dresses would also work well for bridal or baby showers, rehearsal dinners, etc. Just swap out the shoes and accessories if you need to dress them up or down. Shop the looks using the links or images below each look!

1. Lace Midi Dress

Last year I was on the hunt for a less expensive version of the popular Self Portrait lace midi dress that was popping up all over Instagram, but anytime I found one that fit my budget and was still good quality, it would sell out in minutes. I actually love this one even more and it’s only $89. The colors it comes in are great too: black if you want something that can be worn for lots of occasions, periwinkle for a spring or summer event, or white that would be perfect for a bride or bride-to-be.

2. Laser Cut Scalloped Dress:

This dress is definitely my favorite right now. I’d say it’s right up there with my yellow floral dress when it comes to versatility and it’s ability to be dresses up and down for any occasion. It’s admittedly much prettier in person – the laser cut detailing and fabric make it look like it costs much more than it does! I went with simple nude shoes and accessories here, but you could easily add color (I love bright pink or yellow paired with navy). Plus I love the fit – it’s nice and flowy but not so much that it makes you look like you have no figure. This would also be great for bridal or baby showers!

3. Crushed Velvet Dress:

Can we go back to 90s style? Crushed velvet, chokers and Adidas shell toe sneaks may be as close as I get, but I’ll take it. There are so many options at different price points, and since it’s more of a trendy piece, I went on the lower end. What I love most about crushed velvet – especially when it’s in this dress style – is how soft and comfortable it is!

4. Fun Floral Dress:

This exact dress is from last year, but the idea behind it still applies. Go for a dress with contrasting bright or bold colors in the floral print. Then you can have fun with accessorizing, whether it’s your shoes, bag or jewelry. In this case I went neutral with the shoes and played up two of the colors in the dress with the earrings and clutch. I personally loved this A-line style that I scored at Target, but any cut that works for you will do! And these tassel earrings are so fun and under $13!

Keeping it Comfy with Faux Leather Leggings

Happy Friday! Today I’m sharing one of my go-to looks thanks to the best faux leather leggings in the world. Like I did below, I usually pair them with a big cozy sweater {got this one during the #Nsale this summer, but listed other options below!} and then throw on a pair of booties. Other days, aka on the weekends, I throw on sneakers and a casual top. There are two things I love most about these leggings: they come up nice and high so they suck you in {bet you wouldn’t guess they are Spanx!} and they aren’t too shiny like other faux leather options are.

On another note, I’m loving chokers right now. I picked up a bunch from Forever21 to see if I would actually wear them and now that I have been, I want more. I have my eyes on a sparkly rose gold choker at the moment, which I included in last week’s rose gold roundup. It would look so cute with a pale pink dress or shirt.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to a nice Sunday Funday for the Super Bowl this weekend, which is always a good time, especially when the Pats are in it of course. Hope you all have a good weekend!

Favorite Finds – 2.1.17

Rabbit, Rabbit! Happy February – my birthday month is officially here and so are the last 9 days of my 20’s. To kick off the month, I’m starting a new series: Favorite Finds. This is where I’ll share random items that I’m eyeing or recently purchased so you can check them out too. Up this week: winter boots, cozy sweaters/sweatshirts, ruffled tops and everyday sneakers. Shop the items via the widget below each section (scroll through for more options!).

Favorite Finds

1. Winter Boots: I have my heavy duty Sorel boots that I got last year, which I love, but are really for snowstorms (which we thankfully haven’t really had any of this winter yet). I’m going back and forth between Sperry and Bean Boots, so I might have to order both and see which I like better. Any tips on which Bean Boots are the best for New England winters are much appreciated!

2. Cozy Sweaters & Sweatshirts: Tis the season for all things cozy and warm… I love a big chunky cardigan paired with a simple t-shirt, or a sweatshirt that looks presentable enough to wear to work or out for drinks. There are so many available right now at all sorts of stores!

3. Ruffled Tops: I love this trend! To keep it simple, you can go with a ruffle at the bottom of your shirt for almost an oversized peplum look (peplum just never looked good on me, but this works!). And then to take it a step further, try ruffles that go across a sweater or on the end of sleeves.

4. Everyday Sneakers: Athleisure is thankfully here to stay, because sneakers have become my go-to on the weekends and even some days at the office, depending on which style they are. I love the sneakers below because they’re good for both getting some exercise and wearing to lunch or errands. They pretty much work for anything!

Rose Gold Everything

True story… I have a rose gold obsession. I came across SO many good finds that happened to be rose gold, so I knew it was time for a shopping roundup, just in time for Valentine’s Day {treat yourself!!}. Rose gold is way more versatile than I originally thought it was – it really can be treated the same way gold and silver are… except with a shade of pink, my fav.

I love how rose gold jewelry looks paired with light pink in particular, so I grabbed this dress and choker {shown below} for an upcoming trip. And I might have to get these sunglasses {also below} too since they’re only $55! I think jewelry is by far the easiest, simplest way to incorporate rose gold into your everyday outfits, both dressed up and down. My husband has talked me out of metallic rose gold sneakers a million times in the last few months, but I secretly still want them. If I lived by myself and could get away with a super girly condo, I would probably use it as an accent color {love the throw pillows below!}.

What are your favorite rose gold finds? Let us know in the comments below! And shop the post from top to bottom with the links below {even more options if you scroll through the widget at the bottom}.

Softest Vest & Flannel Combo

For my first post of 2017, I had to share what is quite possibly the best vest ever. I had my eye on it for a while and it kept selling out, but my mom got it for me for Christmas {thanks, mom!}. So go ahead and pick one up before they’re gone again – you won’t regret it. My go-to way to wear it has been with a flannel and my favorite distressed jeans {which happen to be under $20!}, but you can really throw it on over anything from a light sweatshirt to a casual dress. It’s totally appropriate for anything from lounging around to work, as long as it works within the dress code. I also love how it looks with my new Cuyana bag – another gift! Side note: I’ve had these Uggs for about 8 years and they’re still going strong, on sale here.

As you may have noticed, I had a slow start to the year getting back in the swing of things post-holidays, but from here on out you can expect new posts here {almost} every Wednesday and Friday! And of course daily posts on Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest and Facebook. The countdown is on {less than a month!} to my 30th birthday and I have lots of fun content planned, including travel guides and beauty roundups that were among my most read posts of last year. Let me know in the comments if there are any other topics/posts you’d like to see!

Stocking Stuffer Gift Guide 2016

The pre-holiday season got the best of me and admittedly I am WAY behind on my gift guide content that I had originally planned (sorry!!). The holidays are now here, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who hasn’t quite checked everyone off the gift list yet. One of my favorite things on Christmas morning when I was little was opening up my stocking – my mom wrapped every little thing in it so it took forever!

So today I’m sharing lots of last-minute stocking stuffers from either stores you probably have nearby or good old Amazon Prime. Bought all your gifts already? Pick some of these up for yourself – especially the gift sets that are only available at this time of year and are usually great value! Shop everything via the links and images below, where you’ll find even more options in each category.

Happy Holidays, everyone! Hope you all get to disconnect and spend time with family and friends.

Fall Sunflowers

Fall is in full force here in New England, and I’ve been trying to get outside and enjoy it while it lasts, especially on the weekends. I love this time of year, but it goes by way too fast! In September last year, I kept seeing a beautiful sunflower field pop up on my Instagram, so this year I decided to check it out and also pick up some fresh produce for the week at the farm it’s part of. It was worth the hour-long drive – although I will admit that while the pics are pretty, IRL it was basically a giant sunflower field with people taking selfies everywhere! Definitely a great spot for a photo opp and a taste of fall.

I love floral patterns with jewel tones in them for fall, and I found exactly that in this dress. Long sleeved dresses are great transitional pieces because you can swap out your footwear from sandals to flats, then onto booties and tall boots as the temps drop. I’m very picky when it comes to flats, and the ones I’m wearing here have been my go-to since I got them last year (they’re still available and on sale here!).

I’m heading out to San Francisco tomorrow to visit a friend and am looking forward to relaxing and enjoying weather in the high 60s for a long weekend. Colder weather is going to be here before we know it! For more fall looks and my travels, follow along on Instagram (@dailykatyblog), and let us know what your favorite transitional fall staples are in the comments below.

Yellow Florals

Wedding is season is in full swing right now for me – and by that I mean this weekend will be the fourth I’m going to in six weekends! While that’s left us with little free time on the weekends, I love any excuse to get dressed up and celebrate with friends and family. Usually, I either use Rent the Runway or buy dresses for specific events, but this year I bought a few different dresses at the beginning of the season that I knew I’d wear more than once and dressed them up for weddings.

I went with this yellow floral dress for a Labor Day Weekend wedding at a barn near the ocean for my husband’s cousin’s wedding. When I first spotted this dress online, I knew I had to have it. I typically gravitate toward a-line dresses that are tight at the waist but then go out from there to give room to breathe (and eat!), but for some reason this one was an exception because even though it was flowy, it still had enough shape to it. Plus it was fun to dance around in!

Since I wore this dress for a wedding, I dressed it up with cognac suede lace up block heels (similar here) and a nude bag. More recently, I put a jean jacket on top of it and went with flats. And if you love the yellow floral print but not this particular dress, you’re in luck, because it also comes in a few different styles (scroll down to shop those – they’re all on sale!).

I know fall is technically here, but we’re just starting to feel it, so I know many of you are still enjoying the summer heat! Shop this look using the links below, whether you have weddings coming up, are heading on vacation or want to save it for next spring or summer.
