Beach Vacation Outfits

OK peeps… who is so sick of winter that you’re ready just to skip ahead to summer?! I sure am – but here in New England, summer isn’t quite in sight because it doesn’t even feel like spring (it snowed today, ugh). But to hold myself over, I’ve been deep in vacation planning. We’re heading to Colorado in May for my brother’s graduation, Croatia for a family vacation in June and then San Diego/LA to visit friends and go to a family wedding in July. Lots to look forward to!

And with that, I’m on the hunt for the perfect vacation/summer staples without spending too much cash money. I just ordered a bunch of bathing suits to try on from Target & Aerie and waiting for some good sales to shop so I can grab things like these shortalls that I’ve had my eye on. In the meantime, I took a look back beach vacation outfits I do have via pics from 2017 trips to Portugal and Hawaii – I still love all of these outfits and most of the items are still available (or very similar versions). Shop them all via the links below!

50% Off Spring Shoe Sale!

I’m always on the hunt for a good sale. Lately, anytime I spot something online that I want to buy, I leave it up on my browser until it goes on sale (or sells out, sadly) and then I grab it. That happened today when I went to buy the perfect gingham dress that I’ve had my eye on – it was on sale, plus an additional 15% off – that I knew would be good for my brother’s graduation, bridal/baby showers, etc.

While I was checking out, I noticed that Lord & Taylor was also having a hugeeee spring shoe sale. So today I’m sharing lots of neutral spring shoes that are ALL 50% off. This sale is so good that you should definitely grab your favorite pairs soon because they’re selling out. And note that while I’m sharing neutral shoes below, many of these come in black and other colors! Shop them all by scrolling through the widget and clicking on the shoes you want.

Favorite Lace Midi Dress (& Lots of Similar Styles!)

Ever since our wedding, I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect blue dress, similar to the color my bridesmaids wore. I found exactly that last summer – this lace midi dress, which was under $90. It’s a near-exact dupe for the popular Self Portrait Azaelea dress, minus over $200. I was tempted to grab another color when they launched fall colors… and now it’s back again with new colors for spring. They finally have the periwinkle color I’m wearing below back in stock, along with white (great for brides!), black and several new colors, eggplant, lilac, mint, navy and red.

This dress tends to sell out in various colors and sizes, but just keep checking back on Nordstrom until what you’re looking for is there. I’ve found that they are continually restocked and it just takes a bit of patience if you have a specific color in mind. But if you see the one you want, grab it before it’s gone! They are constantly launching and replacing colors, so you don’t want to miss your chance. I recommend you size up if you’re between sizes (I’m 5′ 8″ and got a medium). If you’re unsure of your size, you can easily order two thanks to Nordstrom’s free shipping & returns.

While I personally think the cut of this dress is flattering on anyone, if it’s not for you, try this one. It’s the same brand, same price, but an off-shoulder ruffle style that comes in pale yellow and white. It’s a strong contender for an early summer wedding I’m attending! Along with that dress, I also tracked down lots of similar options to shop via the links and widget below. Click through the links because many of them have several color options available and are at pretty low price points. If you find any others, leave them in the comments for everyone to see!

Floral Tank in Palm Springs

A few weeks ago, I was out in Palm Springs celebrating my mom’s birthday. We had a great long weekend exploring – hiking, eating and relaxing – away from the cold New England weather. More to come on my Palm Springs recommendations in an upcoming travel post, but in the meantime, I wanted to share an outfit I wore while I was there – mainly because I love the tank top and it’s on sale for $9.99 and available in all sizes. We got a taste of warm weather for two days last week and I cannot wait for spring to finally be here to stay!

This floral tank top is nice and lightweight and perfect for either wearing on its own with shorts or jeans or using as a layer underneath something like a jean or leather jacket. I love how flowy it is because it’s a loose-fitting top while still being flattering. I also picked up these sunglasses and cross body bag before the trip and they’ll both be staples in my spring wardrobe (& beyond!).

Weekend Reading – February 18, 2018

This has been a great long weekend and it’s not even over yet. We flew out to San Fran on Wednesday night and have been staying with our friends who live north of the city. It’s been the perfect mix of exploring and relaxing with friends we don’t get to see very often, which included a 1st birthday party for their little one. On Thursday, we took the ferry into the city, grabbed lunch and checked out a few spots we hadn’t been to on past trips, such as the Painted Ladies. Another day was spent in Sonoma at a few vineyards and lunch.

I’m definitely not looking forward to trekking back home tomorrow – but hope you were all able to relax and enjoy the long weekend. On the positive side, it looks like it’s going to be 60 degrees back home for a couple days this week. Before we close out the weekend, here’s some weekend reading with some of my favorite links, shopping picks and sale finds.

Weekend Reading

Links I Love:

  • I’ve been considering trying acupuncture because I have carpal tunnel in my wrist and have heard it can be good for lots of other things too. This post breaks it all down and made me even more into it. We’ll see if I can get over my fear of needles and actually try it out.
  • How cool is Chloe Kim?! I have a slight obsession with the Olympics and have been loving the snowboarders. This article made me even more excited for her big win.
  • This post about how to re-energize yourself at work talks about everything from organization to finding your community at work. The suggestions are all simple, but also important.
  • I started my blog about a month after our wedding and really didn’t put much thought into the layout. This post about how to choose the right template for your website or blog is helpful and made me start thinking about changing mine up in the future.

Shopping Finds:

  • I love a good thermal shirt (two of my favorites here & here). This one is next on my list – it comes in lots of colors and looks super cozy and like it will be great for layering or wearing on its own, dressed up or down.
  • These fun tassel earrings also come in a bunch of colors and look like they are also pretty lightweight. I love big earrings but not when they feel heavy. I might need to grab these in white for spring.
  • I’m into a good leopard print as a neutral and have my eye on these slide sneakers. I think they’d be so cute with jeans for work with a cute top, or with yoga pants for running errands. I also like these, which are on super sale in some colors/sizes.
  • Cozy sweatshirts that don’t look one bit like my old college hoodie that I wear around the house have been on repeat for me lately. This one has a twist hem in front that gives it the look of being perfectly tucked in. I’m into the pink but it also comes in a nice gray – and it’s only $45.

Sale Picks:

  • Last week I posted about this straw bag that would be perfect for summer. I just found a similar black crossbody bag that’s on sale for $24! This one is even more similar – not on sale, but under $100.
  • This leather backpack is on super sale for $115, down from almost $400! I have another bag from this brand and it’s great quality. Their bags are good staple items that will last.
  • Two of my go-to lightweight jackets (that I also wear over t-shirts) are on sale right now. Here is the faux leather jacket and here is another that’s a very soft faux suede.
  • I got these Loeffler Randall heels last year that are perfect for wedding season, but I just spotted very similar sandals that are on sale for just $48. I love that they’re cognac and will go with lots of dresses and other outfits.

Weekend Reading – February 4, 2018

When I first started this blog, I had a Friday Faves series where I shared a quick four links of favorite things I saw over the week. For this year, I’m going with an updated version of that, complete with articles I loved, shopping picks and awesome sale finds. If you have any recommendations for links or items to include in my next Weekend Reading post, comment below or message me!

Hope everyone had a great weekend and are getting together with friends or family for the Super Bowl… go Pats! Hank is showing his team pride in today’s pic. :)

Links I Love:

Shopping Finds:

  • Loving this gold metal mirror (on sale!) with this table for our work-in-progress updated entryway. Made a huge difference already! Shop similar mirrors here, here & here (this one pretty similar to the one I bought but way less $!). If you like this style table, they also have it in a coffee table, night stand, dresser and even bed!
  • The coziest thermal that’s all over Instagram is a must-buy. I’ve been stalking trying to grab it in the lilac color – right now I have gray.
  • Having a serious debate with myself over whether or not this straw crossbody bag is worth the price tag (also comes in a smaller version here)… Remember that other bag that was all over Insta last summer? There’s now a near-perfect dupe for under $45 on Amazon.
  • I’ve been bringing back my high ponytail here and there and need to get these velvet bow hair ties. But I’m also thinking I could make them myself for way less money…

Sale Picks:

  • This flowy floral tank that I wore in Palm Springs. Perfect with jean shorts or regular jeans.
  • My go-to oversized sweater from last year, shown in the pic in this post.
  • The best faux leather jacket/sweatshirt combo. I wear it all the time and also have it in off-white.
  • A sherpa pullover that looks like the coziest thing ever. Can’t wait for this to arrive! I got it in light pink and it also comes in white.

Memorial Day Weekend Nordstrom Sale! #Nsale

The official kick-off to summer – aka Memorial Day Weekend – is SO close… I’m counting down the hours til I can head down to the beach for a bachelorette weekend. It’s not exactly going to be beach weather, but it’s still good to get away – and it has me excited for summer weather whenever it decides to come back! Since I know people are getting ready to check out for the weekend, I’m keeping today’s post short and sweet… The Nordstrom Sale (#Nsale) is happening NOW and items are selling out fast. Below you can find my picks – shop them using the links below. They’re all 40% off!

Have a great long weekend!

Beachside in New Hampshire

I grew up on the Seacoast of New Hampshire and love getting back up there, especially when it involves visiting family or friends. My mom is in the process of moving into her new house that’s just a street over from the beach and a few weeks ago we spent the day walking around and exploring the town. I’m pretty jealous she gets to take in this view daily! It was the perfect scene for taking some pics along the way, as we both love a good opportunity to play around with our cameras.

I scored this dress during the Nordstrom #Nsale and while it sold out quickly, it was finally restocked and is still under $50! I sized up because the material doesn’t have much stretch and the dress can be adjusted with the tie straps. It’s super versatile – I’ve worn it out to dinner {shown below}, to work and to a bridal shower, swapping out shoes and accessories to dress it up or down. Just throw a jean jacket, chambray shirt or sweater over it, add some booties and it’ll transition right into fall.

If you’ve been following along on Insta {@dailykatyblog} this summer, then you know these lace-up sandals have been my go-to. I got them way back in April and they’re still available and under $100. They come in dark saddle, black and yellow, and while I had a hard time deciding between the two neutral shades, I’m happy I went with dark saddle {shown below} because they really go with everything.

I know the weather is cooling down, but hope everyone gets outside during the long weekend and gets to enjoy quality time with family and friends. And if that hurricane rains on the weekend, catch up on some Netflix or shop the summer sales and new fall items. As much as I love summer, I’m getting excited for booties, jeans and flannel weather!

Gingham for July 4th

My littlest brother graduated from high school last weekend and because it was super hot out I was on the hunt for a light, flowy dress for the occasion. I found exactly what I was looking for and it was on sale for 50% off – and it’s still on sale now with code JULY4TH! Speaking of July 4, it’s perfect for the holiday weekend not only because of the weather, but because it’s easy to incorporate into a red, white and blue color scheme thanks to the navy and white gingham print.

Aside from being lightweight and perfect for summer, what I love about this dress is that I can wear it to both work with some casual sandals (these have been a go-to for years) or to something like a summer BBQ at the beach with a bathing suit underneath and flip flops. I’ll definitely be getting lots of use out of it, including a July 4 weekend party this weekend! Shop the look using the links below.

And in case you haven’t seen, there’s a new way you can shop my Instagram looks via my “Shop My Instagram” page. To get there, just go to “Shop” and then “Instgram.” I’ll also be linking to it in my Instagram profile (@dailykatyblog) so if you see something you like, it’s super easy to shop without having to clutter your inbox with emails.

Happy long weekend! xo

Splurge vs. Save – Chloe & Self Portrait

I love a good deal, especially when I can find one that looks just like the high-end designer version of whatever it is I’m shopping. I recently came across the perfect knock off of the popular Self Portrait lace midi dress so I had to share it, along with a few other knock offs of these Chloe wedges and bag. While I’d love to have the real version of all of below, I’m totally fine with the less expensive options shown on the right below – you can barely tell the difference! Shop both the designer picks and their dupes using the links, and let us know in the comments if you’ve come across other good finds!
