Cheers to a Memorable 2014

After getting married and going on an amazing honeymoon to the Greek Islands in 2013, it was hard to believe that this year could even compare. But 2014 brought so many great things, the best being the new addition to our family, a mini bulldog named Hank. I was so excited to get a puppy, but I had no idea how much joy he would bring to our lives every single day! We also took trips to Cali, Spain and Aruba in 2014, and I closed out the year graduating with my master’s degree just a couple weeks ago.

2014 in Review -

I’ve been a little MIA on the blog this past week (sorry!), which wasn’t the plan, but I found myself needing to take some time to myself and catching up with friends and family in town for the holidays. So to close out the year, instead of resolutions, I’m sharing some of my favorite memories from 2014. Thanks so much for reading and cheers to 2015!

1. California – Los Angeles & San Diego

For my birthday, my husband surprised me with a trip to visit my best friend in LA and more of our friends in San Diego.

LA Sunset -

2. Spain – Ibiza and Barcelona

We spent a few days in Ibiza and then met some of my family in Barcelona for a week in April.

Spain -

3. Hank

The day after we got home from Spain, this little nugget came home with us. Puppy training was not easy, but it was so worth it!

4. Weddings!

Wedding fun continued this year with four of our close friends getting married in beautiful locations from New England to Washington D.C.

5. Celebrating a Special Birthday

My husband turned 30 this year and we celebrated with a big bbq with family and friends and then we went to Provincetown, Cape Cod for a nice weekend away. Ptown is very dog friendly, so Hank even got to come along!

6. 1st Anniversary in Aruba

We celebrated our first anniversary sitting on the beach and relaxing in Aruba. We’ll definitely be going back there soon! The beaches are beautiful.

Holiday Gift Guide: For the Dogs – Part 1

This is our first Christmas with Hank, so obviously I went a little overboard on presents for him. Below are some great gifts for dogs – a jacket, toys, treats and more. And I’ll be back with more ideas soon!

Gifts for Dogs
  • Ruffwear Quinzee JacketBefore we had Hank, I didn’t even think of the fact that dogs – especially little ones that live in New England – actually need jackets. Hank likes this one – it’s lightweight but insulated so it keeps him warm. It also has a buckle on each side so it’s super easy to get on and off of him. {, $84.95}
  • Ruffwear Bivy Cinch BowlBefore we had this, when we brought Hank to a friend’s house and had to feed him, we would either put his food in a ziplock bag or tupperware. But with this bowl, you can put the food in there and it collapses flat so it barely takes up any room in your bag, and then you can expand it into a bowl when he’s ready to eat. {, $29.95}
  • P.L.A.Y. Pet Lifestyle and You Santa’s Little Squeakers: Hank has been playing with these festive toys since the second they arrived. I originally planned on hanging them as ornaments until Christmas, but he was too happy with them for me to take them away. The set comes with five plush toys inspired by some of the best parts of Christmas – snowflakes, fir trees and ugly holiday sweaters – and they’re filled with eco-friendly soft PlanetFill polyfiber. They even have a double layer exterior and stitching that makes them more durable than most toys – they’re still in great shape even after lots of play time. {, $37.90 for the set, $6.50-$12.90 individually}
  • P.L.A.Y. Pet Lifestyle and You Big Bone: This is great for bringing on-the-go – and when we’re at home, Hank lays with it in his bed. This bone-shaped cushion gives him neck support and it also transforms into a blanket and thinner pillow. Right now, we have the blanket zipped off so he can cuddle with it. Both the pillow and blanket are super soft too. {, $59}
  • Whole Paws Gingerbread Large Dog BiscuitsHank loves these gingerbread dog biscuits. They’re made with wholesome, all natural ingredients – no artificial flavors, by-products, unnecessary grains or fillers – so I can feel good about giving him treats. {Whole Foods}
  • Soggy Doggy DoormatI love these door mats because they actually look nice in your home and also do what they’re supposed to – absorb water and mud when Hank comes in the door. They’re quick drying and stay odor and bacteria free. You can even use it as a soft crate liner or a placemat for your dog’s food. The only downfall is that Hank sometimes tries to use it as a blanket because it’s so soft. Promo code! UseEXAM20 for 20% off. {, $21.99 for small doormat}
  • Fruitables Vanilla Snowflake Flavor Treats: Hank has loved Fruitables since we first brought him home, so I was excited to hear about these. They’re made with real snowflakes – 300 from the mountains in Crested Butte, Colorado to be exact – plus pumpkin granola and yogurt, all for only nine calories. The packaging is also nice and festive for the holidays. {, $4.99}
  • Indigo Smokehouse Strips by PetSafeThis safe, healthy jerky alternative is made in the USA with real fresh chicken or pork as the main ingredient. They have a smoked and cured flavor that your pup will love and they’re vacuum sealed for freshness. {, $2.99}
  • ORGANIX Jerky Chip Cookies: These all-natural dog cookie treats are oven-baked with organic oatmeal and protein-packed jerky chips from chicken, salmon, beef liver or lamb. They also have organic fruits and veggies, like peas, apples and carrots. {, $6.99}

Holiday Sweaters for Pups

More holiday gift guides are on the way, but after spending the day off from work with Hank, I thought it was a good time to share some dog-related holiday news. The American Kennel Club (AKC) sent Hank some pretty amazing sweaters from their Pet Sweater Holiday Collection by BH Pet Gear. He’s been loving sweaters and jackets this winter, so these have already come in handy. Plus, he’s going to look so festive at all of our holiday events. You can pick these up at retailers nationwide for $12.99 each, such as Groupon and Amazon.

According to VetIQ, the vet-recommended line of pet prescription medications, 85% of pet owners say their pet was nice, not naughty this year. Hank was definitely naughty at times, but still the perfect addition to our family since we  got him in April. So let’s just say he’s getting a lot of presents this year. Check back for two gift guides just for your pup!

Happy Holidays from Hank the Reindeer

One of my favorite things about the holiday season is picking out and sending our our cards. We always go with photo cards with a picture of my husband and I, so I was excited to switch it up this year and use a pic of Hank instead!

Yesterday I dressed him up in some fun holiday outfits Party City sent Hank. You might remember that Hank had some pretty amazing Halloween costumes from Party City too – they have a great dog costume section and everything is pretty affordable too.

Xmas Dog Reindeer Costume {more on}

You’re probably thinking… poor Hank. But I swear he loves the reindeer costume because it’s essentially just a fleece sweatshirt. And he seems to love sweaters too now that it’s cold outside and he’s just a little 12 pound nugget. He always sticks his tongue out when he’s tired, so you can tell he was pretty sleepy during these pics!

There are more pics of Hank’s holiday outfits from Party City below – and you can buy these for yourself on using these links: Reindeer Costume ($12.99), Candy Cane Sweater ($9.99) and Christmas Bandana Collar ($6.99).

Come back to the blog for more holiday posts featuring Hank – there will be everything from ugly Christmas sweaters for pups to dog gift guides.

Hank is Ready for Halloween!

If you’ve been following my Instagram, you’ve been getting regular pic updates of our nine-month-old mini bulldog, Hank. But it’s been a while since I posted pics on the blog, so in the spirit of Halloween coming up this Friday, I’m sharing some adorable puppy shots of Hank in his Halloween costumes and sweaters from Party City.

Halloween Hank

Party City has so many perfect Halloween costumes for dogs and I couldn’t resist making Hank try them all on this past weekend. It took a lot of treats, but luckily he loves treats more than he dislikes being dressed as Superman. Now we just need to get him to a Halloween party this week or weekend! Next year we’re definitely participating in the Boston Canine Promenade (click for pics of other dressed up pups!).

Don’t have a costume for your pup yet? There’s still plenty of time to head over to your local Party City or Hank’s costumes are the Striped Pumpkin Dog Sweater, Striped Skull Dog Sweater, Amigo Dog Costume and Superman Dog Costume. There are so many options that it was so hard to pick just a few out – everything from Ninja Turtles and Where’s Waldo, to Pirates, Princesses and Dinosaurs.

  2. Puppy Love: My new favorite Instagram account, BullyInstagram. How can pics of adorable bulldogs not make me happy.
  3. Lauren Conrad: Slight obsession with her in general – probably due to my high school obsession with Laguna Beach… but really, I’m loving her new items from her LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s collection and also this giveaway.
  4. Office Inspiration: Love this home office look from The Everygirl. Can’t wait til I finally get around to updating my home office space.

Buy Items Directly from an Image with new iPhone App Piccing {Review}

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Piccing. All opinions are 100% mine.

As a Pinterest addict, I was excited to try out a new iPhone app, Piccing, and share my first impression with you. From my experience trying out Piccing, I discovered that this app is a fun way to explore and “picc” visual content from categories ranging from women’s fashion, food and pets, to DIY, home decor, toys and more. The main differentiator between this app and others is that it’s designed to direct you to purchase items you see in the photos with just one click.

 photo 8a99df40-16b3-4439-893c-a402bf22dddb_zpsfef41a7c.jpg

How it works: Download the app, select a few categories that are of interest to you and begin browsing. If you see images that you like, go ahead and “picc” them, which is a similar experience to pinning an item to one of your boards on Pinterest. You can also add your own image by uploading through the website or by using your camera/photo album on your iPhone.

There are little orange circles on some of the images, which you can tap to browse similar items. When you do that, a list of items pops up and you can scroll through and click on items you like, which then brings you to a page outside of the app to purchase that item. You can also mark items within images you’re browsing or that you upload.

 photo e01344b9-2987-44e4-a617-6d4935c9cb52_zps050f65dc.jpg

Favorite things: I love the idea behind this app. On social media sites like Pinterest and Instagram, I follow lots of bloggers and brands and often click through to get more info on specific items I’m interested in. With Piccing, you click a few times and you can ideally purchase something similar very easily. The content on the app is great too, so I enjoyed browsing through the different categories and “piccing” items to my profile.

Not-so-favorite things: The main drawback to this app right now is that when you click on a mark, the items that come up to purchase aren’t similar to the item shown in the image. The purchase process is very easy and features lots of big brands, but it would be more useful if you could at least view items that are similar in color, style or brand. Additionally, many images don’t have marks at all. Finally, there are only eight categories to browse and add images to and it might be helpful down the road to add more or allow users to create their own. This app is brand new, so I’m guessing that as more people join, more brands sign on and more users begin marking images, these drawbacks will improve.

KONG for Puppy {Giveaway}

We’ve had our 14-week-old puppy Hank now for three weeks… and what a three weeks it has been. Having a puppy is 100% worth it, but it is A LOT of work. But the cute moments outweigh the stressful, and a particularly awesome puppy toy I learned about recently has become an instant puppy entertainer. Whenever we need to get something done around the house or distract Hank when we’re about to leave, we give him his new KONG Puppy toy and he’s entertained.

What is a KONG? The KONG Puppy toy is the original toy that started the KONG Puppy product line. It has a soft rubber that’s great for soothing a puppy’s gums, and it’s recommended by vets and trainers to help with crate training, decrease separation anxiety, promote proper chewing behavior and deter misbehavior. We had some trouble crate training Hank during the first couple of weeks and this definitely would have helped. All you have to do is stuff it with KONG Easy Treat, Snacks or Ziggies and give it to your pup! KONG Puppy is available in four sizes – XS, S, M and L – based on the size of your pup.

Hank had the opportunity to try out the items below: KONG Puppy toy, KONG Puppy Easy TreatKONG Stuff’N Puppy Snacks and KONG Stuff’N Real Peanut Butter. Here’s some info on each:

  • KONG Puppy Easy Treat makes KONG stuffing easy. Simply apply the tasty paste to the inside of a KONG Puppy toy. Specially formulated chicken liver flavor is perfect for a puppy’s sensitive tummy.
  • KONG Stuff’N Puppy Snacks are made with high-quality, natural ingredients. These tantalizing treats can be used anytime, but are specially shaped and sized to fit your dog’s KONG toy.
  • KONG Stuff’N Real Peanut Butter is human-grade peanut butter conveniently packaged in an easy-squeeze tube with a long nozzle for quick KONG toy stuffing. Use it as a convenient training tool or as a reward. NOTE: most dogs LOVE peanut butter.

 photo 823f969c-1d37-4a0f-a895-ac93cdcf50e1_zpsc8030531.jpg

I advise anyone with a new puppy to pick up a KONG Puppy toy. Before we got one, we would leave him with his toys, but none kept his as occupied, entertained and happy as the KONG Puppy does! Below are some pics of Hank using his KONG for the first time… he would have played with it for HOURS if I didn’t take it away from him eventually before bed.

 photo 36306116-f25d-4811-b9b6-3663efeb35aa_zpsc1a76220.jpg

As your puppy gets older, you can pick up other KONG products and fill them with lots of different things. You can even put together a mixture of wet and dry ingredients, stuff the KONG and freeze it, creating a long-lasting, mentally stimulating task for your pup. Check out the recipe page for ideas that incorporate everything from treats to canned pumpkin, yogurt, bananas and more.

KONG’s website has some great resources and tips on topics such as: basic training for dogs with KONG, crate trainingchewing problems, separation anxiety and introducing your pup to a new babyTo learn more about KONG, visit and be sure to follow the company on Facebook.

Better yet, now through June 16, 2014, you can enter the giveaway below to win a package of KONG Puppy products!

Baby Hank is Home!

It’s been a busy couple of weeks over here! I just got back from a trip to Ibiza and Barcelona, Spain, and then the day after we got back we picked up our new puppy, Hank. More to come on the trip and baby Hank, but in the meantime, here are a couple of new pics at 12 weeks old. The only time I’ve been able to get good pics is when he’s sleeping – he’s so full of energy!
