Friday Faves – 2.1.19

It’s frigid out, so of course that means it’s the start of February. All we’re missing is the gigantic snowstorm that typically hits around my birthday mid-month. But good news: the Pats are in the Super Bowl, so that should make for a nice Sunday Funday.

January was off to a great start over here on the blog, but then got a bit derailed toward the end of the month. My new baby nephew came a few weeks early (all good, yay!) and I traveled to Colorado for a friend’s wedding (beautiful!), followed by a last-minute work trip. I’m ready for some February hibernation and getting back to a routine. Plus the continuation of my KonMari clean-out.

Anyway, here are my Friday Faves – links I’ve read, products I’m eyeing and more. What are you loving right now?

In my quest for clean beauty, looking to try out a few BeautyCounter products. Which are your favorite?

Also listened to an interesting podcast with Miranda Kerr about her Kora Organics line and also need to try it out.

Way behind on my yearly photo books and think I need to switch over to Artifact Uprising after seeing this post.

My husband sent me this post on how to KonMari your technology as a not-so-subtle hint that my phone has way too many unread emails on it. On a related note, I did use her folding technique as I packed for a trip and it really helped! Watch this video to see how you’re supposed to pack a suitcase.

I’ve never used an interior designer but am trying to make updates around the house. If you’re considering working with one, this post on how to get the most out of it will help. Also, has anyone used Havenly?

Read about a few female founders and their morning hacks for starting the day off right.

Stayed at the cutest boutique hotel in Denver last weekend, The Maven, which is right in the Union Square area with lots of restaurants. More to come on that.

Obsessed with home decor at Target right now, including all things blue and white – this striped vase, these flowers/vase and this soy candle. I have them all on display together in this gold tray on my coffee table.

Very into this article about Millennials being the burnout generation. I can totally relate.

Bachelor fans: loving Kaitlyn and Jason’s new romance, but also felt sad for Shawn on this podcast.

Have my eye on this affordable gold ring for everyday wear.

Love this Serena and Lily rattan chair – it’s under $100!

Friday Faves – 1.18.19

Happy Friday! I know not everyone has Monday off, but I do and I could not be more excited about the long weekend. I have zero plans other than watching the Patriots on Sunday (& making my famous buffalo chicken dip). A storm is on its way but it’s looking like it’s just a whole bunch of wintery mix nastiness by me, so I do wish we were getting some real snow if we’re going to be cold and stuck indoors.

I’m hoping for a good mix of productivity and Netflix binging. I’m literally obsessed with Marie Kondo and “Tidying Up” on Netflix. I never finished reading the book several years ago but after seeing the show, I was inspired. So far I’ve tackled my closet and a few drawers and want to keep going! And for TV, it’s time to get into the a new season of one of the many series we’ve been neglecting.

Read on for this week’s Friday Faves!

On the note of the KonMari method via Marie Kondo, I’m very into the idea of fewer, better things and will be following along this writer’s experiment with that this year.

Making a goal of reading at least one book a month – hopefully more when I travel. Getting inspired by this list of 2018 books.

Totally agree that self care is more than a hashtag… and also face masks and bubble baths (though I do love both of those!).

This call-your-girlfriend post really resonated with me. Good, real friendships are everything.

Finally tried on a friend’s Rothys flats last night and am officially I need a pair… or two. You’ll get $20 off your 1st purchase using my referral link (& I’ll also get a discount on my end, so thank you in advance!).

Discovered my closet is filled with too many dresses with nowhere to wear them. Going back to Rent the Runway for next weekend’s wedding – love this dress. Same deal as Rothys, use my link on your 1st order & we both get $30 off!

In need of black sandals to wear with dresses and love these Loeffler Randall shoes. They’re an investment, but I was able to find these in good condition on Poshmark – and I know I’ll like them because I have the block heel version in tan.

Very excited about our new coffee table and end tables that need to be put together – here is a similar gold coffee table that’s super affordable!

Just started using the juicer we got at my bridal shower… 5+ years ago (oops). I’m very into it and now am considering trying out pure celery juice after reading about it here and here.

Watch the R. Kelly docu-series on Lifetime. And then feel guilty about loving the Ignition Remix as you get disgusted by everything he’s done/is currently doing.

Trying to learn the basics of clean beauty, including how to read labels/identify the worst ingredients and easy product swaps.

Have my eye on Everlane for high-quality basics that are also sustainable – anyone tried them out?

Best Amazon Finds of 2018

I’m not sure what I did before Amazon Prime. It’s become my go-to for everything from dog food and kitchen gadgets, to jewelry, travel essentials and gifts. No more going to miscellaneous stores or waiting a long time for orders to come in – it’s 2 days with a click of a button. I looked back at alllll of my purchases over the past year to give you my best Amazon finds of 2018.

Tt was hard to top 2017’s Dash egg cooker or this compact spiralizer, but this year’s picks included several significant purchases for one reason or another. Whether it was changing the way I pack for travel or accessorizing with trendy, inexpensive pieces, Amazon did it all.

If you’re on the hunt for a good gift for a guy in your life, I highly recommend a Yeti cooler. And while I didn’t list out baby and toddler gifts below, I also purchased little board book sets for several of the nuggets in my life (here & here).

Here are my top picks in no particular order, which I love for all different reasons.

2018 Best of Amazon

Self-Care & Beauty:

1. Acupuncture MatIf you’re curious about what acupuncture can do for you but aren’t into needles or committing to appointments, try this super affordable acupuncture mat. Lay on it for 20+ minutes a day and relax – promise it doesn’t hurt.

Bathroom Makeover with Target Opalhouse

While it certainly doesn’t feel like it, spring is finally here and I’m feeling the urge to make updates around the house. As you may have seen in another recent post, one of the things that sparked me taking action was the launch of the Target Opalhouse collection (more on that here, including all of my picks for every part of your home).

First up: the bathroom I call “mine,” which is technically connected to our spare bedroom, but my husband and I each took one since we have 2 full bathrooms. When we moved, we literally took everything from our 1-bedroom, 1-bath apartment and plopped it into the guest room. Now it’s 8 years later and while we did get new bedding for the spare bed a couple of years ago, the bathroom has remained untouched.

Bathroom Makeover with Target Opalhouse

Shop the Post:

Shower Curtain / Bath Mat (another option here)

Tissue Holder / Soap Dish / Toothbrush Holder

Soap/Lotion Dispenser / Waste Basket (similar)

Towels (other here & solid colors here)

Gold Frame (similar) / Watercolor Print (similar)

I had no idea how much of a difference something as simple as a shower curtain could make. Our old one was brown – I think I was trying to decorate in as gender-neutral of a way as possible! – and it made the bathroom seem so dark when you were actually taking a shower. I always thought it was because the bathroom didn’t have any windows/relatively crappy lighting, but now that I have a light shower curtain, that problem is gone! I also love this one – but ultimately decided to go with more of a blue/green vibe.

Ornament Gifts for the Last-Minute Shopper

How crazy is it that Christmas is less than a week away! I was so organized and had most of my gifts purchased before December event started… and then I had a big lull and need to finish up this week. Ornaments are such a good last-minute gift idea – and this year you can take that idea up a notch with all of the beauty, skincare and even home-themed ornaments that come with presents in them! The packaging is so fun and you can either gift them as-is by hanging them on the tree or give them as stocking stuffers.

Last-Minute Holiday Gifts - Ornament Gifts

I’m sharing details on some of my favorites below – and you can shop even more at the bottom of this post by scrolling and clicking on the ornaments in the widget. Grab an ornament gift online or at stores like Sephora, Ulta or Target. What are your favorite stocking stuffers or low-cost gift ideas that come in cute packaging?

Ornament Gifts

1. Nest Candle: You can’t go wrong with a candle from this brand. They’ll make your house smell like a luxurious spa. The ornaments come in the best holiday scents that will make you want to go back for a bigger version.

2. IT Cosmetics CC Cream: I tried this out for the first time last week and have been loving it! It’s lightweight yet still gives you nice coverage that actually stays put. Extra bonus is the SPF 50.

3. amika Dry Shampoo: I’ve always heard great things about this but have yet to try it out. Might have to grab this ornament to try it out as a travel size and take it on my next trip!

4. Too Faced Mascara: This has been one of my go-to mascaras for years (I tend to switch them up and layer depending on where I’m heading). It gives you lots of volume and people are obsessed with it.

5. BeautyBlender: Almost New Year, so probably time to either replace yours or grab one for the first time – it’s a game changer when it comes to applying things like CC cream or foundation. I just learned the best way to use it is by running under water first so it doesn’t absorb all of your makeup!

6. Clinique Merry Moisture Set: This comes with their popular moisturizing lip balm crayon and face lotion. These products are a pretty safe bet for anyone who likes to at least wear a little lip color.

7. thisworks sleep tight: This is perfect for a new mom or someone who needs a good night’s sleep. It comes with 3 essential oil products – 2 pillow sprays (one to help you fall asleep, another to keep you asleep) and a de-stressing aromatherapeutic rollerball that will relax you for bedtime.

8. Philosophy Bubble Bath, Shower Gel & Face Washes: You can’t go wrong with any of these – they smell so good. They also have some of their popular face lotions in ornament packaging.

9. Buxom Full-On Lip Polish: I always come back to this brand for lip gloss – and this one will give you a nice gloss that also works over your favorite lip color.

Pineapple Everything

We’ve barely even had a winter (or at least any snow) and yesterday felt like spring. Fine by me! So until the warm weather is finally here to stay, I’ll be dreaming of all things summer… starting with my latest obsession with pineapples. I want gold pineapples everywhere in the house (love this candle!), my weekly planner has pineapples on it, and I’ll be heading to Target later today to pick up this pineapple one-piece bathing suit. Need it all!

Shop the post using the links below – and don’t miss out on my Rodan + Fields skincare giveaways one post back!

All that Glitters Gift Guide

I can’t be the only one with a minor obsession with all things gold, so today I’m sharing a gift guide with all things glitter and gold. My current iPhone case is glittery and everything about it makes me happy, and I need to get my hands on these glitter sneakers. Also, gold works for pretty much anything around the house since it goes with browns, blacks and other neutral colors.

In particular, right now I’m loving the Sephora Formula X Bottle Service nail polish set. I’m wearing “Ignite” in the second pic below and it’s the perfect deep red for winter and the holidays. The set comes with 10 different mini nail polishes and the festive champagne bottle packaging makes it an easy, fun gift. Just throw a ribbon around it and you’re good to go! Bonus points if you also give it with a real bottle of champagne.

All of the items below would make great gifts for a friend, coworker, yankee swap or for yourself! Shop them all using the links below.

Friday Faves {July 10, 2015}

This week was a long one after a holiday weekend, but Friday is finally here! Lots of sunshine is in the forecast here, so I’m looking forward to a few good beach days. Here are my Friday Faves to kick it off…

Friday Faves on DailyKaty.com

  •  Stylish sandals that don’t hurt. I need to get my hands on these. I’ve had my eyes on gold Birkenstocks for a while now and I’m pretty impressed that comfort-first brand Dr. Scholl’s has equally as on-trend options too (here and here). {via bustle.com}
  • Cold brew coffee. This black coffee addict loves everything about this. And now it’s at Starbucks. As in one block from my office, which is either a really good or bad problem… you decide. {via eonline.com}
  • Nordstrom sale + my favorite lip stain. I’m sure you’ve heard that the Nordstrom sale is on for cardholders and it will soon open up to everyone 7/17. I couldn’t resist buying this set of my favorite lip stain. I wore it on my wedding day and have pretty much every day since in about a million different colors. Grab this – it’s such a deal, you are basically getting one free (they’re not cheap on the reg). I also love everything Kendra Scott and this bracelet goes perfectly with my everyday bangles (I’m an Aquarius, so amethyst everything). More sale finds coming soon… {nordstrom.com}
  • Make your house look guest-ready. Without spending hours cleaning, that’s the key. I’m certainly not a neat freak. In fact, my husband calls me a slob. I’m organized in my own ways, like at work, and I do like a clean kitchen, but when it comes to putting away laundry… not so much. This post has a quick list of ways to make your house look put together if you happen to have a last-minute guest coming over. {via apartmenttherapy.com}

Friday Faves {May 22, 2015}

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Hope your weekends are filled with sunshine, friends and family, food and drinks and relaxation. Today is one of my favorite days of the year because it’s the start of summer Fridays at work, which means summer is almost here, even if the temps aren’t feeling that way yet. To kick off the long weekend, I’m sharing my Friday Faves… and then I’m heading to catch up with my best girlfriends from high school – can’t wait!

Friday Faves on DailyKaty.com

1. Friendship in your late 20s, early 30s. I came across this post and felt like it was describing my friendships these days. Quick summary: You make your best friends before or during college, you’re with them all the time and friendship, put simply, is easy. You graduate, your friends move here and there for jobs or guys, you all start getting hitched, and then, before you know it, babies are on the way. Whether my girlfriends and I are busy with grad school or we’re a few time zones away from each other, the reality is we can’t see each other as often as we’d like.

But as this post puts it, “scarcity makes time spent with friends even more valuable — a treat I write delightedly into my calendar in hot pink pen so that it stands out among the staffings and the errands,” and we get to look forward to the weddings or our girls weekends where we are all reunited. And I’m sure that it will all come full circle, because “in another ten years, the babies will be older, the marriages will mature, and our friendships will be better nurtured by the increased time and energy we have to give them.” We’ll be getting old together, saying cheers over our favorite Pinot Grigio. {via refinery29.com}

2. Strike a pose. Learn how to work your angles and makeup to easily look better in photos. This post takes you through all of the steps, from using a primer to playing up your best features, and also recommends products to try out. {via intothegloss.com}

3. She shed = life goal. Um, I need one of these. I’ll wait ’til the day comes that we move to the ‘burbs, but if she sheds are really a thing, count me in. It’s described as “an anti-man cave, usually decked out in string lights and a comfy couch.” Perfection. {via brit.co}

4. Half yearly sales. Especially when they’re at Nordstrom, which very rarely offers sales worth mentioning. Get up to 40% off lots of items now through May 31. I’m shopping this sale tonight and so far I have my eyes on these espadrilles and this watch and bag, which also comes in tan and yellow. {nordstrom.com}
